Jeffrey Manchester is on the run, and his plan is basically: if nobody’s looking for a criminal in a toy store, then nobody’s looking at all. So he hides in the one place the police definitely wouldn’t think to check. At first it’s weirdly fun. Little sounds, bright stuff, everyone else busy being a little less suspicious than they should be.
But the fantasy doesn’t last. The toy store turns into a prison of solitude, and the “great hiding spot” becomes a tight box with no obvious exits. Luckily, Jeffrey has one thing he can’t just loot and discard. Love. The movie doesn’t treat romance like a magical reset button. It makes it risky, inconvenient, and honestly kind of messy.
“Roofman” is a charming scam tale with soft edges and sharp timing. Rating-check says: IMDb 7.0, Rotten Tomatoes 87%. Suspiciously decent for a story that starts with a fugitive hiding near the stuffed animals.

Jeffrey Manchester ist ein Typ auf der Flucht, der offenbar glaubt: Wenn alle nach draußen gucken, bleibt drinnen niemand übrig. Also verschwindet er in einem Spielzeugladen. Nicht als Witz. Als Überlebensstrategie. Anfangs wirkt der Ort wie ein zuckeriges Versteck: quietschende Räder, blinkende Kisten, niemand fragt nach Aktenzeichen. Bis das Kuschelparadies zur Einsamkeitsfalle wird und aus dem „Versteck“ ein eigenes kleines Käfig-Problem.
Und dann passiert das Unwahrscheinliche. Ausgerechnet Liebe wird sein Notausgang. Nicht, weil das Leben plötzlich nett wird, sondern weil Gefühle manchmal die einzige Tür öffnen, die vorher komplett zu war. „Der Hochstapler - Roofman“ ist wie ein Katz-und-Maus-Spiel, nur dass die Katze Kuscheltier heißt. Tendenz: 7.0 auf IMDb. Rotten Tomatoes geht auch mit.
